After graduating from Art School, Tim practiced as an artist, working in a variety of media including installation, video, painting and multifunctional furniture. At the same time he founded the conceptual operation Flatland OK. The intention of this project was to explore the possibility of existing in a commercial environment in a meaningful and ethical way. All of Tim’s work encourages the collector or viewer to look at themselves through hybrid forms such as the “wallet with wheels” or use of the simple mirror.
Artist Bio
In 2003 Tim Fleming established the design studio Flatland OK. Flatland OK encompasses all the design work that Tim creates, and from its inception a certain amount of fiction exists around the objects. Recently Tim’s practice has focused on large-scale projects in a “hired gun” capacity. Major recent projects include “The Walk” a free standing steel platform for Euroluce’s Sydney Showroom, the “Two Hands” installation for the 2009 Saturday in Design Festival, and the hand mirror installation for Pieces of Eight Gallery. He is based in Melbourne’s Nicholas Building.
