"A piece of jewellery is not complete until it interacts with the wearer. My initial approach is through conversation. The prospective wearer expresses to me some desire or perhaps an element absent from their lives. I transform this exploration into a visual translation through an interplay of the fundamental quality of the materials, textures, shape and colour. My spontaneous reaction to the materials never creates the same outcome and allows me to visualize obscure images into sculptural jewellery.
Yuko's current work is made in oxidised silver, moulded and hand tinted silicone, sometimes with ceramics or mild steel. The work is very tactile and unique to her own visual language. After growing up in Japan, she now resides in Australia. In 2005, she graduated from RMIT Gold and Silversmithing where she was the recipient of several awards, and as well as being a jeweller, she is also a freelance illustrator."
