“Yamazaki produced a black object no larger than a business card, slightly
thicker, and flexed it sharply between his thumbs. A black umbrella flowered”
William Gibson, Idoru.
"My intention is to create curious miniature objects that convey a fictional
narrative, each a whimsical character in an imaginary tale. The pieces are
constructed with humour and absurdity to allow ambiguity in interpretation.
Often the collected materials are chosen for their zoomorphic or anthropomorphic
characteristics, and then used in the construction of Frankenstein style
creatures. The precious materials and jewellery techniques used to build
the pieces also create a mechanised aesthetic, resulting in a menagerie of
absurd robotic creatures. Through mechanistic function and aesthetic I can
indicate artificial life in an inanimate object."
