"I take the fragile images of vintage portrait photographs, rich in lost histories, and transform them using enamel, metal (copper or fine silver) and the photographic silk screen technique into more permanent wearable art.
Some of these unknown men, women and children portrayed in my jewellery are given new identities and stories by placing them in their own altered book.
These works combine the altered books and their jewellery as well as individual pieces that still keep their secrets. These pieces were exhibited at Span Gallery early 2006 in my solo exhibition entitled 'Secure the Shadow'.
The name of this exhibition comes from the phrase "Secure the shadow ere the substance fade," used by 19th century photographers to advertise their craft."
