“My jewellery is about finding beauty in pure geometry and form. I enjoy reducing forms to their essence and finding the elegance in this. Strong lines and bold structures become wearable. Working with oxidised silver allows me to play with shadows and depth, gold brings colour and purity, and pearls, amazing lustre. Through the process of making, I become very connected with the piece and enjoy the discipline and focus of working by hand. I find the idea that my work will take on new meanings and histories of the wearer very satisfying.”
Melanie Katsalidis is the director of Pieces of Eight and one of the artists who has a studio at the original Pieces of Eight workshop.
