Julia Silvester has created a series of glass works using late medieval botanical imagery and text taken from the works of Hildergard von Bingen (1098-1179). These are sandblasted onto laboratory glass creating a translucent forest of intriguing shapes and forms, the works themselves forming a dialogue between the worlds of art and science.
Julia holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking (with Honours) from RMIT University, graduating in 1999, where she has also been a sessional lecturer since 2001.
She has been the recipient of several awards including the Geelong Acquisitive Print Prize in 2007, and included in a number of collections including the National Gallery of Victoria and RMIT University. She has exhibited wisely throughout Australia and internationally since 1995 in both group and solo exhibitions.
