 “My
work is about abstraction. It can be geometric or organic, but I
enjoy the play between form, tone, shape and colour through these
conditions. The objects I make explore lines, planes and surface
colour. Metal is a key material but often revealed as
a striking scratch beneath a powdery matt coloured finish. Comfort
and wearability are also key concerns when making abstract work so I
often incorporate soft materials like elastic for these reasons.
I work primarily with scale, creating small-scale sculptures and
fabricated spaces. I also make constructions from wood, paper,
photographs and cardboard that function as tableaux and suggest
actual architectonic spaces. I enjoy making objects
and jewellery that explore these conventions but still feel active
and playful. I focus
on activating the surface of
each piece so it appears as an entirely different
material; not hard metal but something papery-smooth and
malleable.”
