Co-workers is an ongoing project that explores the nature of objects as sculpture and as co-workers to human practice. This series of new works created for Pieces of Eight reflects on the history of Modernist sculpture and abstraction, exploring the aesthetic and conceptual concerns of a territory between the intimate, interior and large-scales. Co-workers: Objects utilizes textiles, geometric forms, linear repetition and abstraction and draws from historic sources including the works of American and Italian sculptors Alexander Calder and Fausto Melotti.
Meredith Turnbull creates artworks that engage various scales, art historical traditions and artistic genres, making connections between images, jewellery, decorative objects and sculptural components through spatial practice. Recent projects extend an ongoing interest in combining approaches to sculpture, craft and display though notions such as excess, embellishment, adornment and décor. More broadly her practice focuses on the potential and practical implications of the subject areas of sculpture and craft.
