An Exhibition by Raymond de Zwart
June 19 - July 14, 2007
"Portals and Night Vision is a collection of jewellery and vessels suggestive of ancient technologies, the enormities of space, and the intricacy of constellations.
The work is born from traditional metal working processes such as bronze casting, marking out silver and gold sheet, and fine saw piercing.
The designs that arise from this process make the connection between the mechanical and the metaphysical.
They betray a curiosity with geometry, nautical maps and echo the astronomical measuring devices of another era.
Through the inherently sentimental nature of jewellery, the objects become navigational tools for the wearer, Portals into the other mysterious worlds."
Raymond de Zwart, June 2007
Raymond de Zwart is a Melbourne based artist who studied Gold and Silversmithing at RMIT University, graduating in 2004. Until recently he was a member of the Pieces of Eight workshop but now works from his home-based studio. This is his first solo exhibition.
