A group exhibition of earrings
April 1 - May 3 2008 (extended)
"Jewellery has been described as "the dot on the i." Just as when we are reading, a dot helps us to distinguish a little stalk from a forest of other stalky letters, so too, Earrings add to your identity. They can be a finishing touch to the self. At least for that day."

David Neale, February 2008
(excerpt from exhibition catalogue)
This April we launch 'Twice Bitten' the first group exhibition held at Pieces of Eight beyond our annual Christmas shows. Twelve jewellers were asked to make a series of at least 5 earrings each and given the freedom of no brief to follow except for their own instincts. The result is a broad collection of work in diverse styles and materials which reflect the individuality of each maker. Just what can an earring be? In this exhibition we see the earring, one of the oldest forms of jewellery, become a vehicle for each jeweller to showcase their own unique approach.
The earrings exhibited in 'Twice Bitten' take various forms. Lucy Folk has made a series of carved Jelutong wood earrings using motifs such as salami and delicate silver peppercorn studs. Yuko Fujita uses tinted silicone and whitened silver to create very tactile series. A recent trip to Ecuador has inspired Suzi Zutic to create a new body of work titled 'Apparitions and Superstition' using religious iconography and gem stones. There is a materiality to Elfrun Lach's earrings which are varied in form and structure, utilizing felt, glass, polypropylene amongst other materials.
