 The Vine
August, 2008
Spring is nearly here and so too is beautiful bright and colourful enamel jewellery at Pieces of Eight on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy North.
With seven different artists exhibiting, the pieces vary from pretty floral earrings to chunky rock-like knuckle dusters. A highlight is an eerie peacock that eyes you from the piece by Jessica Morrison.
If you're anything like me you have memeories of amateurish enamelling projects in metal work class at school. This exhibition should dispel those thoughts. It's amazing what can be done with enamel. Katrina Tyler manages solid single colour boldness with her 'Coral and Seafan' necklace, while Katherine Brunacci manages to mimic fine gemstones with her 'Untitled' brooch. The firing process takes away an element of control and that delivers delightful results.
