 The Age
August, 2007
With warm whites and dull blacks, and obvious references to the shapes of leaves, petals and insect wings, Michelle Cangiano creates finely modelled component parts for her neckpieces and brooches.
Her gold rings appear rudimentary in comparison with the subtle volumes of her oxidised silver brooches, say, or the faceted, painted-pine and silver pendants of neckpiece No. 2.
The neckpieces can be worn in several ways as the square-sectioned long beads threaded on a fine silver chain give them a degree of rigidty.
The dyed wooden bangles gesture towards a different way of working that is not necessarily available to all makers, no matter how much they might like to "loosen up".
