 The Age
November 10, 2007
These wild flight of fancy run rampant with sprigs of foliage, tropical flowers and resin, cut to resemble precious gems. Nina Oikawa's jewellery is wearable, but not necessarily everyday wearable, its extravagant flourishes verge on the kitsch. Despite the unorthodox appearance of these rings and neckpieces, Oikawa uses traditional, stone wire-setting techniques and for all the theatrical embellishments when worn, they feel unexpectedly comfortable.
Nina Oikawa's exhibition, Sweet Dominance is showing at Pieces of Eight October 30 - November 24, 2007
