I work in a very process driven way, developing new surfaces and forms through continuous experimentation. The surfaces I create need imperfections and weathering before I can make them into something. I believe when an object appears weathered with a graphic patina it becomes more tactile and engaging.
Georgie Brooks has completed a Bachelor of History, University of New England, Interior Design (Hons), RMIT University, and an Advanced Diploma of Engineering (Jewellery), Melbourne Polytechnic. A permanent resident at Melbourne studio Northcity4, her current practice is focused on transcribing manufactured surfaces to imperfect impressions on her work, working with metals, gemstones and found objects. She is inspired by jewellery and its historical context, and researches pieces from eras such as the Roman and Byzantium to examine how the detail of such work can be applied in a contemporary context.
