Pieces of Eight Partners With i=Change

We're proud to announce a new partnership with i=change, where you can now donate $1 from every sale on our website to a life changing non-Governmental organisation.

i=change has a particular focus on the empowerment and protection of girls and women, so launching this alliance close to International Women's Day feels particularly exciting for us. i=change have already raised more than $7,500,000 to support communities at need all around the world.

Pieces of Eight has chosen three Australian organisations to support, and you, the client, get to make the final decision about where your donation goes. Read on for who you can donate to with your online purchase.

The Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation

The Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation is transforming lives through community-driven, ground-breaking and best practice literacy programs. Working in English and Indigenous First Languages, ALNF is committed to creating sustainable, long-term change.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children continue to fall through the cracks of our education system, trapping them in a cycle of vulnerability and illiteracy. This devastating gap is particularly evident in remote Indigenous communities, where the writing abilities of year 9 students are at year 1 level. If not addressed in the early years, this issue continues into adulthood, where in remote areas, up to 70% of Aboriginal adults are ‘functionally illiterate’. This is a national tragedy.

Just $12 can pay for a day of specialised literacy support in an Indigenous community.

The Social Studio

Many young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds face significant barriers to accessing education and employment. These may include interrupted or lack of schooling, limited English, a scarcity of work experience opportunities and a lack of support networks in Australia.

The Social Studio breaks down these barriers by providing a safe, supportive and creative environment for young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds to gain work experience and qualifications, express their creativity, gain industry contacts, meet new friends and build their confidence as they create a new life in Australia.

A donation of $25 can provide one hour of dedicated employment and education pathways for one young person.

Women's Community Shelters

During these times of economic challenges, Women's Community Shelters is experiencing a 25% increase in inquiries for safe accommodation for women and children, who are homeless or escaping domestic violence. Existing services are at full capacity, with more than 50% of women who are seeking shelter turned away due to a lack of beds.

Across Australia, around 56,000 women are homeless each night, many with young children. Women unable to access shelters are left vulnerable, disconnected from community and support networks.

Women’s Community Shelters is dedicated to providing women and children with a safe place to stay and an opportunity to rebuild their lives. $50 will provide a hot meal and a safe, comfortable place to stay for one night.
