SPECTRA: Ryoji Ikeda at MONA

On my recent visit to MONA, I found myself completely captivated by Ryoji Ikeda’s Spectra. There is something profoundly moving about a single, monumental pillar of light piercing fifteen kilometres into the night sky.

As someone who spends her days looking at the world through the lens of art, design, and form, Spectra felt like a masterclass in minimalist power. It’s an immaculate scale of light and geometry, proving that the most breathtaking concepts often rely on pure, unadulterated precision.

In jewellery making, we often talk about how light interacts with form; how a clean line or a perfectly angled facet can catch a single beam and transform a piece completely. Seeing Spectra was a beautiful reminder of why true design excellence doesn't need to shout to be unforgettable, it just needs clarity and exceptional execution.
