Interstate Clients
On seeing a piece in person — and why we will cover your flights.
There are things a photograph cannot tell you about a piece of jewellery. The weight of a ring on your hand. The way a stone gathers light and gives it back as you move. The quiet authority of solid metal, shaped by an artist at the bench. Some things can only be understood in person: holding the piece, trying it on, and letting it settle into place.
For our clients in Melbourne, this can be achieved in an easy afternoon. For the many we are fortunate to have elsewhere in Australia, it has always meant making a journey. We have been thinking about that distance, and how we might close it.
Let us bring you to Melbourne
If you are travelling from outside Victoria, we would like to make the journey a little easier. Should you commission a piece following your consultation, we will credit the cost of your return flights towards your purchase.
Up to $500 on commissions from $5,000.
Up to $1,000 on commissions of $10,000 or more.
To our knowledge it is the first offer of its kind from an Australian jeweller, and it is our way of welcoming those who have supported us from afar. It applies to commissions with both Pieces of Eight and Melanie Katsalidis, at 28 Russell Place in the Melbourne CBD.
How it works
- Book an Interstate Visitor Bespoke Consultation at our gallery, located at 28 Russell Place, Melbourne.
- Following your visit, should you choose to commission a piece, we will credit the cost of your return flights towards your commission: up to $500 for commissions from $5,000, and up to $1,000 for commissions of $10,000 or more.
- Simply confirm your commission and pay your deposit within 14 days of your visit, then send us your flight confirmation. We will take care of the rest.
Your visit
A visit to our Russell Place gallery is deliberately unhurried. You sit with us and talk through what you have in mind: a piece from the collection you have long admired, an engagement ring, or the beginnings of a bespoke commission created especially for you. There is no hurry and no obligation, simply time to explore, ask questions and experience the work as it is meant to be seen.
You do not need to arrive with a design, a budget worked out, or any knowledge of gemstones. If you tell us beforehand what you are hoping to see, we will have the relevant stones and work ready for you rather than sending you away while we look for them. If you are coming a long way, it is worth a phone call first.
Should you go on to commission a piece, the making takes six to eight weeks from the date your deposit is paid. There is no need to return to Melbourne to collect it — we deliver insured and tracked, anywhere in Australia.

Travel Reimbursement — full terms and conditions
1. The Offer
Pieces of Eight and Melanie Katsalidis ("we", "us") will reimburse the cost of return flights for interstate clients who attend an in-person consultation at our Melbourne gallery and workshop (28 Russell Place, Melbourne) and subsequently place a qualifying order with either brand. The offer is intended as a gesture of welcome to clients travelling from beyond Victoria.
2. Eligibility
Residency: The offer is open to clients whose primary residence is in Australia, outside the state of Victoria.
Consultation: The client must attend an in-person consultation with Pieces of Eight or Melanie Katsalidis at 28 Russell Place, Melbourne.
3. Offer Period
This offer is ongoing and may be varied or withdrawn at any time.
4. Qualifying Order & Reimbursement
A qualifying order is a single commission or order with a total retail value (GST inclusive, before the reimbursement is applied) of AUD $5,000 or more. Where a client places orders with both Pieces of Eight and Melanie Katsalidis arising from the same consultation, the combined value may be counted toward the qualifying threshold. The maximum reimbursement depends on the order value:
Commissions of $5,000 to $9,999: reimbursement up to AUD $500.
Commissions of $10,000 or more: reimbursement up to AUD $1,000.
In each case, the reimbursement will not exceed the actual cost of the client's return flights, and will never exceed 10% of the order value. One reimbursement applies per commission, regardless of the number of people who travel, and is limited to one reimbursement per client in any 12-month period.
4b. Cancellation or Reduction
Where a qualifying order is subsequently cancelled, or reduced in value such that it would no longer qualify or would qualify at a lower tier, we may recalculate or withdraw the reimbursement and adjust the balance payable accordingly.
5. How to Claim
The order must be confirmed and the deposit paid within 14 days of the date of the consultation. The client must provide proof of flight purchase in order to claim the reimbursement. Where a deposit is paid outside this period, the reimbursement is at our discretion.
6. Proof of Travel
The client must provide proof of flight purchase (a booking confirmation or receipt) in their name, for travel that reasonably coincides with the date of the consultation. The offer covers return flights only and does not cover accommodation, transfers, or any other travel costs.
7. How the Reimbursement is Applied
The reimbursement is applied as a reduction off the total price of the commission and is processed once the deposit is paid. It reduces the balance payable on completion rather than the deposit itself. It is not paid in cash and is not redeemable for cash. The offer cannot be combined with any other discount, promotional code or offer.
8. General Conditions
We reserve the right to verify the eligibility of any claim and to decline a reimbursement where these terms are not met. Where any part of the offer cannot be honoured for reasons beyond our reasonable control, we reserve the right to modify or withdraw the offer to the fullest extent permitted by law.
9. Privacy
Any personal information collected in connection with this offer is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy, available here.
10. Governing Law
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia.
