Diamonds are one of the hardest materials on earth, making them an exceptional choice for jewellery intended to be worn daily — rings in particular. A diamond's resistance to wear and surface scratching is unmatched, but it's worth noting that no stone is entirely indestructible. It is still possible to chip or crack a diamond with a hard, direct impact, so wearing your pieces with a degree of mindfulness goes a long way.
Diamonds are naturally attracted to oils and residue, which means they can quickly lose their sparkle with everyday wear, however regular cleaning easily restores their brilliance, keeping them looking their sparkling best.

Notes for everyday wear
Avoid exposing your diamond jewellery to abrasive materials, harsh chemicals, and extreme changes in temperature. This means removing rings before cleaning, swimming, gardening, physical exercise or working with your hands.

Cleaning at home
For a simple at-home clean, soak your piece in warm water with a squeeze of dish detergent for a few minutes, then gently scrub away built-up residue with a soft toothbrush. A jewellery polishing cloth or a cleaning product formulated specifically for diamonds are also safe, effective options.

Professional care
Once a year, bring your diamond pieces back to Pieces of Eight Gallery for a deep clean. We'll pop it in our ultrasonic, which uses high frequency sonic pulsation to remove what home care cannot. We also recommend a thorough annual check of any diamond settings to ensure your stones are as secure as the day you first wore them.
