Last Thursday evening, we welcomed guests to Pieces of Eight for the opening of La Grande Fête, presented as part of Melbourne Design Week.
Bringing together the playful, sculptural objects of design duo Daniel + Emma with a curated selection of contemporary jewellery, the exhibition invites a dialogue between form, material and imagination. Each participating artist was tasked with responding to a single object through the creation of a ring, translating its visual language into a wearable piece.
Guests joined the artists and designers in the gallery to experience the works firsthand, enjoying Mount Monument wines and a curated selection of seasonal bites throughout the evening. The room moved between conversation and discovery, as visitors traced the connections between object and ornament, the fleeting and the enduring.
Presented collectively, the works form a kind of feast, a gathering of ideas, materials and approaches that celebrate collaboration and experimentation within contemporary jewellery practice.
La Grande Fête will be on display until 24 May. We invite you to visit us in the gallery at 28 Russell Place, Melbourne, to experience the exhibition in person.
