A Lustrous Life: Caring For Your Pearls

A Living Gem: Why Pearls Need Care

Unlike harder gemstones, pearls are soft and organic — born from a living creature and built from delicate layers of nacre. This gentle nature is the source of their quiet glow, and the reason they ask for a little tenderness in return. Cared for well, a pearl only grows more beautiful with the years.

Wear Them Often

Pearls are happiest against the skin. The natural moisture and warmth of your body keep their nacre supple and luminous, so the more you wear them, the more they glow. A pearl left forgotten in a drawer can slowly dry and dull. These are gems made to be lived in.

Last On, First Off

Perfume, hairspray, cosmetics and lotions are a pearl's quiet adversaries — their chemicals can dull and erode the surface over time. Make pearls the final touch as you dress, and the first thing you slip off when you arrive home.

A Gentle Clean

After each wear, wipe your pearls with a soft, slightly damp cloth to lift away the oils and traces of the day. For a deeper clean, use lukewarm water and the mildest soap, then lay them flat to dry. Never reach for ultrasonic cleaners, steam, or harsh chemicals.

Rest & Storage

Store your pearls softly — in a fabric pouch or lined box, laid flat and kept apart from harder jewellery that might scratch their surface. Let them breathe; an airtight space can dry them out. And if your pearls are strung, have them restrung now and then so the thread stays strong.

An Heirloom in the Making

Cared for gently, a pearl holds its lustre for a lifetime — and far beyond. Worn, loved and looked after, your pearls become more than jewellery. They become a story, ready to be passed to the generations who follow.
