Materials -
9ct yellow gold, baroque pearls, sterling silver pins and enamel paint.

These are artworks first. The hand-painted surface is delicate and will scratch or wear away if not treated carefully — please think of them as collector pieces for occasional, considered wear rather than everyday earrings.

Store each pair in its own pouch or box, separately, so the painted surfaces never rub against anything — including each other. Avoid all abrasive surfaces, chemicals and perfume, and never expose them to water.

Worn thoughtfully and stored well, they'll keep for a lifetime. They are one-of-a-kind and never to be repeated.

Chromatic Pearl is a collaboration between artist Emma Coulter and jeweller Melanie Katsalidis. Here, the baroque pearl becomes the site for Coulter's chromatic insertions, extending her investigation into colour as a spatial and perceptual condition. Through a reciprocal exchange between painted colour and the pearl's natural iridescence, each unique form continually transforms with light and movement. The playful interplay between colour, form and material celebrates the individuality of each pearl, reimagining it as a wearable artwork where organic formation and contemporary abstraction exist in dialogue.

This piece is part of our Tidal Wave exhibition and must remain in the gallery until August 31, 2026.
