Based on Lisa's visit to the snow monkeys in the hot springs of Japan in 2016. Observing the environmental elements and the stillness of the monkeys enraptured by the heat of the water, the steam and the calming minerals led her to create this work, part of a bigger body of work called WHITE LIGHT.
The monkeys bath in stillness like sculptures, surrounded by the movement of mist, steam and snow as if the elements were alive while the animals of stone. Watching these individual primates and capturing them in photographs, film and then sculpture.
In the process of working with the snow monkeys in Japan, primatologists informed Lisa of their research into this species of Macaque . These monkeys have followed human behaviour in immersing themselves in the hot springs of Japan, acknowledged as an evolutionary adaptation by mimicking humans . By doing so this once feisty species of monkey is now a subdued species whose natural selection and, and researches believe a genetically evolving species due to the immersion of minerals .
