Orbits II Sculpture
Melanie Upton
"Orbits is a new body of work by Melanie Upton, created in response to the ongoing evolution of the physical world we interact with. To kick a stone is to alter its trajectory forever—playing a small but vital part in the creation of its form.
Melanie is deeply interested in the transformation of the built environment and the remnants left behind—fragments of a larger, shifting world shaped over vastly different scales of time. A building might be demolished in an instant, radically changing its material state, while wind and rain slowly alter surfaces over decades. Yet these processes, sudden or slow, are intrinsically linked.
In Orbits, Melanie collects, casts, and reimagines these fragments—placing them in dialogue with one another. Her work explores a continuous cycle of evolution: forever shifting, responding, reinventing, and reforming."
