The Softness Of Rock Ring
Georgie Harrison
"This land, ancient and wild, forged over aeons. Layered and undulating in reds and rusts and ochres. Alive with song and fragrance. This ring, an ode to the geology that births the zircon from the depths of this earth and a celebration of the colour and perpetual evolution of our landscape.
Zircons, formed deep within the Earth’s magma, are transported to the surface during volcanic eruptions. They then settle entrapped within solid rock. Over time, water gradually erodes the rock, exposing the gems. Zircon is gifted its spectrum of earthy tones by various minerals. It holds crucial insights into Earth’s origins, serving as a key material in scientific dating. Remarkably, zircon grains discovered in Western Australia during the 1990s have been dated at 4.2 to 4.3 billion years old."
