Celebrating Pieces of Eight at Mount Monument

Last Friday, the Pieces of Eight team gathered to celebrate our much anticipated, if slightly belated, end of year celebration with a visit to the spectacular Mount Monument winery in the Macedon Ranges.

Owned and developed over the past two decades by Gallery Director Melanie’s father, architect Nonda Katsalidis, the property represents a remarkable convergence of architecture, landscape, wine and contemporary sculpture. Set across rolling hills and expansive bushland, Mount Monument feels less like a traditional winery and more like a carefully composed cultural landscape.

Our afternoon began in the winery restaurant with a beautiful long lunch paired with a selection of Mount Monument’s wines. It was a wonderful culinary experience, giving the team a chance to pause, reflect on the year that has passed, and enjoy time together away from the gallery.

Following lunch, Nonda Katsalidis generously guided our group through the grounds on a tour of the property’s striking sculpture park, where large scale artworks are thoughtfully placed throughout the landscape, inviting visitors to encounter art in dialogue with nature.

Nonda also shared a glimpse of Mount Monument’s exciting new project, showing us through the luxury accommodations currently nearing completion. Designed to sit harmoniously within the surrounding terrain, the buildings will offer guests a deeply considered experience of architecture amongst the natural environment; a respite from the hustle of the nearby city.

The visit offered a rare opportunity to experience the thoughtful interplay of art, architecture and landscape that defines Mount Monument.

A heartfelt thank you to Nonda Katsalidis and the Mount Monument team for their generous hospitality.

For those inspired to experience Mount Monument for themselves, we highly recommend planning a visit to explore the sculpture park, winery and grounds. You can learn more or book your own visit via the Mount Monument website.
