Genuine Relic
Genuine Relic
Seb Brown & Jessilla Rogers
November 3 - 26, 2016
A project spanning the separate studios of represented Pieces of Eight artist Seb Brown, and Jessilla Rogers, Genuine Relic explores tension and harmony; the close and awkward interaction between objects and materials.
Fascination with cultural artefacts has brought the two artists together, and after previously collaborating on a small range of objects this show brings together a larger body of work for the first time. With painterly abandon the pair layer their work - sometimes literally - investigating themes of adornment, placement, vignettes and the tension between their bold personalities and differing practices.
Self-taught jeweller Seb Brown’s practice incorporates a variety of mediums, all of which inspire and influence his collections. Trained in Communication Design, his work demonstrates an evolving collection of shapes and words which reference the often unnoticed nuances of daily life.
Jessilla Rogers completed a Bachelor of Arts (Art History) at The University of Melbourne and has also undertaken study at RMIT in Fine Art (Ceramics). She has exhibited at Mr Kitly gallery in Melbourne and Shepparton Art Museum and teaches regularly, including workshops at the NGV.
